I'm 100% self taught, although I did go to art schools and academy of fine arts, back then nobody was teaching anything I could use. Anatomy is the foundation, no matter what style you work in, to understand it will help you not just making your characters more believable, but also more dynamic. "how to draw comics the marvel way" although is not an anatomy book and might be considered a bit "old school", in my opinion is one of the best to understand the human figure, and body language as well. It doesn't matter if one knows each muscle and bone by name( although it might help), what's important is to understand how it "works".
